Music Monday: Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back
Start your day and start your week with a positive message. Move, groove, and let a positive beat lift you up and get you in a good head space for a good week.
Did Sir Mix-A-Lot start the body positivity movement? While I doubt it, he was certainly the first person I can think of that was celebrating women's bodies beyond the thin figure. Listening to it today (and watching the video for probably the first time ever) I also realised how far we've come in the body positivity movement. What makes people beautiful goes so far beyond what we look like, yet accepting what everyone looks like is a great step into seeing our true beauty.
When Sir-Mix-A-Lot raps it up in this song, I'm hearing an early anthem for accepting ourselves as-is. He said, "I realized … There’s another beautiful that, for some reason, is not being talked about much. I wanted to talk about it."
What does this song bring up for you? Do you have other songs that are more forward on the message of all bodies are wonderful? Do you know all the words to this oldie from the early 90s? I'd love to hear how it resonated with you in the comments below. If you have a song you'd like featured on Music Mondays send me the link on my contact page.
I'll be posting Music Mondays to the Facebook Group: Highly Sensitive Women Thriving and to my Facebook Page: Talia Camozzi If you want to start your week with some feel good music (and if you're reading this I have a hunch you do) then do make sure to like my page and/or join the group.
